Crewsaver is sponsoring The Cockleshell Heroes – Paddle Team 2010

Crewsaver is sponsoring The Cockleshell Heroes – Paddle Team 2010 Crewsaver is very proud to be one of the major sponsors of The Cockleshell Heroes Canoeing Team 2010.

Crewsaver has supplied the Cockleshell Heroes Paddle Team with the newest gear including Buoyancy Aids, Spray Tops, trousers and a lot more to support them and to make sure they are successful in re-tracing the 70 mile route five Klepper canoes manned by 10 Marines carried out on the 11th December 1942 from a submarine off the French coast on a daring Commando raid against enemy shipping in Bordeaux led by Major “Blondie” Haslar.

Starting on June 1st 2010 the Cockleshell Heroes Paddle Team will re-trace the route the 10 brave Marines on 5 Klepper canoes took in December 1942 during World War 2.

Operation Cockleshell Heroes is using the same type of canoe following the marines’ route and stops as accurately as possible, battling the tides, currents, mud flats, and the very busy shipping traffic. Then they take part in the unveiling ceremony of a memorial to the raid and the men that took part. From there, they will cycle the 100 mile route that Haslar and Sparks took on their escape, known as the Frankton Trail, as a relay.

Their aim is to re-trace the route taken by those brave men of World War 2 to help the brave men and women of today, by raising as much money as they can in aid of Help for Heroes and RNLI.

The Cockleshell Heroes Paddle Team is holding a public training session on April 24th. They will return to Stokes Bay (Bayside Diner Café, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire ) at approximately 16:30. Everyone is welcome to meet the team and their patron Lord Brabourne.
